Men in Uniform

I knew women like men in uniform, however there surely has to be some sort of line that isn't crossed to get your MEN IN UNIFORM fix....
The story goes like this.
Grand Final Eve around 5.30 pm, Farmerot Danny is out fishing down Jubilee Lake. He gets a phone call from a panicked KB, smoke alarms going off in the background.

KB: Danny Danny, there is smoke coming out of the down lights and I'm not even cooking anything!
Famerot: Get the kids out of the house and call 000.
KB: OK.
Famerot Rushes home in record time, even passing the CFA chief at the Fire Station, Luckily to the relief of the famerot he came home and everything seem fine. No Flames, No Smoke and No Sounding Alarms.
Not one but two CFA trucks arrive, one made it up our drive way and the other managed to get bogged, the young volunteer managed to slip off our driveway and into the ditch, that's right, into the ditch. His left hand tyres were well and truly bogged, more than half his tyres were under mud and the truck was leaning on a very acute angle, luckily he did roll.
The Firemen jumped out of their bogged truck and came up to the house to investigate the cause of the alarm, up they jumped into the roof to investigate. There were no signs of any fire and everything look A OK. The Chief put it down to moisture in the air which may have caused the down lights to start steaming, which caused smoke like air, which cause the smoke alarms to sound, which lead to the CFA being called out.....
We were relieved that everything was fine and that it was a false alarm.
As for the bogged truck, the CFA needed to wait for the rescue truck to arrive and pull them out... They managed to get the truck out about an hour later.
Famerot managed to find a spare slab of beer which he shared with the CFA boys, a little thank you for their help....
As for the mystery of what happened, well maybe it was KB wanting to see some men in uniform, however she didn't realise that our CFA volunteers aren't as buffed as she imagined.

That one day in September for us isn't that special last Saturday of the Month, where the best two sides of the AFL go head to head for the premiership flag, rather it is the 13/9 where we get to celebrate our Zach's Birthday.
This year was his 5th and Zach choose to celebrate by entertaining his friends and family by choosing a AFL Football theme for his party....
As soon as Danny Famerot heard that Zachy boy wanted a AFL themed party, he was so excited, he started planning the party immediately.
He had a list of AFL stars he wanted to secure as special guests, unfortunately Buddy Franklin cancelled at the last minute, so his management sent Danny 'Strauchanie' Koleski to run the Auskick style activities.
Strauchnie was in his element, he was delighted to see the kids getting into the activities. The kids got to show off their Agility, Hand Balling, Marking and Goal Kicking skills, and I think we uncovered some really talented kids, the future of Country footy is looking good in this neck of the woods. Medals were awarded  to the all the kids for their great sportsmanship, with adoring fans cheering as they were presented their medals. I think there might of been some Dimir Dokic type parents amongst the adoring fans LOL!!! lets hope not.

Thank you to everyone for attending and really making it a wonderful day for Strauchnie, I mean Zach. He really, really loved every minute of it.
Later that evening when we got home, I don't know where Zach found the energy to open up the mountain high stack of presents he was given, but some how he managed to do it, I think he was lucky Tatey boy volunteered to help!
The funniest thing was the very next morning, Zachy boy could hardly walk,he limped out of bed and didn't move off the couch for the rest of the day, he was sore for two days, the poor thing did so much running throughout the day, his poor little legs were spent, however you couldn't wipe the grin off his face...

Once again thanks to everyone for attending, it was great having you...

P.S Keep Punching.

Myths and Mobs

The one question Kristy and I were repeatedly asked, whilst holidaying in the USA 7 years ago was 'Is it true you OZZIES have Kangaroos hopping down the street and in your backyards?' well our answer was 'NO' back then however, who would of thought 7 years later our answer would be yes.
This mob of Kangaroos are the locals, they visit the front paddocks early in the morning, making the most of the early sunshine that radiates the cold earth of Korweinguboora. After their morning feed the roos move into the bush for the day, returning in the late afternoon, where they choosing to graze in the back paddocks.
Now that we have them in our backyard, we just need to teach the kids to ride them to school, this will surely make an interesting topic of conversation, next time we visit the United States of America. Well at least we've put one Myth to bed, not sure about the second one.

Hip Hip Hooray

Newborn lamb was a hit with the kids, and Nat!!!

Tatey boy as he's known in this neck of the woods turned 3. Buzz Light Year was his choice of theme for his party. We had great day with our family and friends, who came out to the sticks to help us celebrate Tates special day.
The kids had a great time playing games, pin the tail on the donkey was a sight to see! The kids made the most of the not so cold day, out here in Korweinguboora, fishing, petting a baby lamb and acrobatics on the trampoline were the order of the day.
It was a pleasure having everybody over and thanks to everyone for helping us celebrate Tatey boys Birthday!!!!

Oh, I nearly forgot about the big City Slicker kid Vlat, he got to drive his new 4x4 pickup truck up our driveway, this was the most extreme 4x4 action the poor Ranger had ever seen !
p.s I think it made Vlats day!

My City Farmer Chick

Well the story about the City Farmer Chick goes a little something like this.
I met her as a teenager and before I knew it, I think I was in love!
'I think' turned into 'I am' and 'I am' turned into 'I do'.
After the 'I do' we settled in a cosy cottage in Point Cook, on the outskirts of Melbourne.
Two years later, my City Chick gave birth to our first child Zach. (pinch myself right?)
A year and a half later, we were pregnant again.
Now this is where it gets interesting.
One month into the pregnancy of our second child, I had a brain wave. Fancy hearing this from your hubby, whilst being pregnant with major morning sickness and a one and a half year old hanging off your leg.
' Hey honey, how about we buy a run down farm, do a complete renovation and move our family to the country? Oh and live with my parents, whilst we complete the year long renovation?'
Well believe it or not KB warmed to the idea and before we new it, we sold up and moved our clan to the country.
At first KB was still very much a city chick living in the country, she enjoyed packing the kids into the car and exploring all the lovely country towns, sipping lattes and shopping in the boutique shoppes, country Victoria has to offer. I would come home from work and she'd say 'guess where I went today.'
Well now with our third child, packing the kids into the car and exploring is a little harder to do, however she still attempts to do it once in a while!
Now you might be asking why the 'City Farmer Chick' heading?
Well, KB has earned the City Farmer Chick title, because she has replaced 'guess where I went today' with 'guess what I did today'.
KB not only looks after our three beautiful children, she also finds the time to:
Feed the animals,
Collect and sort the chicken eggs.
Sort out the evening firewood
Gather veggies for our dinners.
Have dinner ready, for when I get home
Herd our strayed cattle back into our paddocks
Assist in several animal births(not shying away from getting her hands dirty!)
And the Summer just gone, she developed the enjoyment of mowing the lawns!
Oh and I must not forget, has developed the love of baking!
Now if this list doesn't warrant 'Farmer Chick', nothing does!

Well, now that I think about it, maybe the heading should read 'My Wonder Women' because that what she is. Actually she's more than that, she is my beautiful wife and a wonderful mother, and I can never thank her enough for what she does for our lovely little family.

With a chore list like hers, it's no wonder she keeps the Panadol on the bedside table!

Farm gate stall

The wheels are in motion for our Kosharra Springs enterprise.

On the Easter long weekend we decided to invite the public to Kosharra Springs. We wanted to test the waters, to see if people would drive up the driveway to buy our fresh produce.

Chestnuts, Carrots, Sweet Corn, Free Range Eggs and Potato's were all available for the public to purchase.

Farmerot Danny (farmer in Macedonian slang)  was up bright and early, harvesting the produce. With the signs out on the road, all that was left to do was fling the gates open and hope they would come.

Zach and Tate were so excited with the farm stall, they were sitting on the front porch eagerly awaiting the arrival of our first customer.
We were anticipating that if customers were to come, it would be in the afternoon, after they've spent the day in Daylesford.  However to our surprise, the cries of 'customers are coming' from our little shop keepers had us in a frenzy, only 30mins had lapsed from when the signs went out!

A couple from Melbourne were heading to Maryborough and decided to pop in, our first official customers had arrived. They bought 2kg of Chestnuts, 2 bunches of Carrots (one orange variety and one purple), one bag of Potatoes and a bunch of Sweet Corn!

It was a great start for our Kosharra Springs Farm Gate Stall.

Customers were steady all weekend and the boys had a great time selling our produce, they're little Donald Trumps in the making!

On Easter Tuesday, Farmerot Danny decided to take the boys to the footy, his beloved Hawks were playing the Cats. The idea was to give Kristy and Emma some girl time, however the girl time had to be put on hold, because Kristy was so busy. She could not keep up, as soon as she saw one customer off, another customer would arrive, this theme continued for the entire afternoon, her only saving grace was the sun going down!

Well the rush ended and the weekend was a success.

Apart from the Hawks losing, the weekend pretty much went to plan, loads of customers trekked up our driveway and purchased our produce.

Hopefully we have many more successful weekends, and maybe, just maybe, the Farmerot can become a Farmer one day!
Stall to Store perhaps? Watch this space!!!!

Summer Harvest

Many things with country life are quite rewarding. However nothing beats the rewards of a successful crop. As you can see in the photos the garden finally got going.
Some crops were more successful than others, however overall it was a good harvest.

Most Successful:

  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Corn
  • Zucchinis (or as there know around here Zachinnis)

  • Strawberries
Not So Successful:

  • Chillies

  • Tomatoes

  • Cauliflower

  • Cucumbers

The most rewarding is watching the kids really enjoy harvesting the fruit and veggies. It's amazing how something as simple as them helping with the harvest, actually makes them want to eat more of the organic goodness.
